Photography expeditions along with traveling make our job one of the best occupations we could have ever hoped for. Val and I started teaching photography in 2010. We took our students on photography expeditions after teaching them the basic elements of photography to help cement our teachings with our students. Initially we stayed close to home taking our students to local venues such as Laguna Niguel Regional park, Sunset Cliffs beach in San Diego and The Mission San Juan Capistrano. As Val and I started to realize that their was suddenly a high demand to learn photography, we took our “Show” (Basic Elements of Photography Workshop) on the road. We went to some really fun places to help our fledgling photographers test their new skills, such as the Portland Oregon Zoo, Seattle aquarium, The Museum of the Rockies in Montana and the Harry P Leu botanical gardens in Orlando Florida, just to name a few.Read More

It doesn’t always take money to give a gift.
We all try our best to do random acts of kindness whether or not it involves donation of time or money, every little bit counts and adds-up. The act of giving, meaning much more to the recipient and hopefully gratifying to the giver.
Most of us practice giving when we can by donating our time or money to those in need. In fact, we are seeing more and more, people on their birthday, asking for a donation to the organization of their choice. It’s their birthday, they get to choose. We have many clients that go far beyond the norm to help others.Read More
As we all know, life is filled with ups and downs, gains and losses and that is what keeps it interesting and exciting at the same time. Life for us is a constant adventure and I feel grateful for all of the positive and negative experiences, our life is anything but dull!
A year ago we lost our beloved Monty to an unfortunate accident on our last photography “Ranch” project in Northern California. Both Monty and Val had severe heat-stroke and Val pulled through and Monty did not. Monty’s tragic death was one of the most devastating and traumatic happenings in Val and I’s life together. Even though Monty was not human... his friendly and loving personality captured our hearts and won the admiration and love of many....he was a “superstar” used in our photo sessions, and going everywhere with us. Monty was my life and that kind of spirit can never be replaced.Read More
Senior year is a busy time for both seniors and parents alike. There is always so much to do and so many memories in the process of being made. Here at Val Westover Photography, we want to help you capture those special last few moments of high school.
Rising above your competition is always a goal in business. You want your business to be better, provided better quality products/services, have better employees, and make more money – but how do you do this?
There are many ways you could try to outdo your competition, but you should first try updating your headshot by using a professional photographer. Even if you have had a headshot done professionally in the past, it most likely will need to be updated due to a change in what’s expected from professional headshots.
Traditional headshots for companies were made to be straight-faced, no emotion, and very basic colored backgrounds. Most men wore black suits in a business-dressed company, and women usually wore one color dress or a suit as well.
Nowadays, professional headshots are about showcasing the emotion, the feelings and thoughts of a person conveyed in a photo. This is to gain the trust of new and old clients, build your network with people interested in working with you or are in the same industry or network.Read More
Photography for small businesses is completely different to any other photography. Acting as a much more important tool for small businesses for their high turnover siblings, photography is an excellent way to promote an enterprise with minimal input. At Val Westover Photography we take the needs of the individual very seriously and are proud of the business we offer to small businesses in Orange County.
As award winning photographers we know what looks good, what looks bad and what will leave you regretting your decisions. We put everything we have into every photo shoot we do and the results are translated directly into the photographs at the end result. Of course, when you’re looking at marketing photos then they are again a different ball game and some of our favorite shoots are the ones that will go directly into marketing campaigns.Read More

Lets face it, we are all a little bit camera shy, and we find the prospect of a programmed photo a little bit intimidating. For this reason, it is always a good idea to research a photographer so that you can acquaint yourself with his or her work. This incredible tale is one of those stories that is so impossible that is is hard to believe, but in the season of miracles I thought our own "Black Beauty" Story would be appropriate. A little back story is necessary... Val and I spent a little under 2 years before we were married in Montana photographing Horses for sale for our dear friends The Mantles of MontanaHorses.com. At that time, we traveled back and forth from Montana to California monthly to Photograph our wonderful Orange County Clients. While in Montana, we were so blessed by the graciousness of a friend to stay in the most incredible Montana Home on a 10 acre gentleman's ranch. Gorgeous views of the valley, daily sounding of the train following the infamous Missouri river, all of our beloved animals and horses in the backyard, I was in complete heaven! The 2 day 24 plus hour commute to California once a month seemed like a small price to pay to live in our dream home.Read More
